Restoration Society, Inc.
programs are rehabilitation communities founded upon the recovery vision -- that all individuals who experience psychiatric disabilities can make a
valuable contribution in the community and lead active lives filled with
hope and satisfaction.

A recovery focus promotes and supports the development of new meaning and purpose in one's life as one grows beyond the limitations imposed by a mental illness.

Our programs include social, pre-vocational and vocational rehabilitation services designed to encourage individual goals and aspirations by providing choice, opportunity and self-determination. We offer support, assistance and friendship in an empowering, work-oriented atmosphere where members can become involved in meaningful activities and self-help endeavors. Emphasis is placed on individualized training and support. Activities are prioritized to assist customers with social isolation, chronic unemployment and the effects of psychiatric hospitalization within the context of each person's self-defined goals.

  • Vision.
  • We envision a world where persons who cope with severe and persistent psychiatric disabilities can freely accrue all of the benefits and opportunities available within the society without the dual burden of stigma and discrimination . . . a world where all citizens have self-satisfying lifestyles sustained by the proper blend of support and independence.
  • Values.
  • Our values emanate from the dynamic collaborative partnership among customers, staff and the Board of Directors, all of whom comprise our family. Values of Hope, Opportunity, Enablement, Personal Involvement, Choice, Mutuality, Support, Individualization, Growth, and Functioning form our foundations and drive all endeavors.
  • Mission.
  • To enable all persons with psychiatric disabilities to increase their functioning so they can be successful and satisfied in environments of their choice with the least amount of professional intervention required.
  • Background.
  • Restoration Society, Inc. is a private not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It was established in 1973 by a group of dedicated volunteers committed to the empowerment and recovery of individuals living with psychiatric disabilities who have experienced years of depersonalization in psychiatric hospitals and mental health service delivery systems. The Agency maintains its commitment to services that are customer driven, recovery-based, and person-centered. Members of Restoration Society, Inc. are centrally involved in every aspect of the Agency's operations. Members serve on the Agency's Board of Directors and Management Team. Fifty percent of Restoration Society, Inc. staff are current or former recipients of mental health services. Restoration Society, Inc. is funded through the New York State Office of Mental Health through contracts with the Erie County Department of Mental Health, Genesee County Community Mental Health Services, and the New York State Department of Education/VESID.
